Jess Dalton

Jess has a reputation for delivering a challenging Pilates class. She loves exercising and has been passionate about moving her body for most of her adult life. Jess practices her craft and does Pilates most days, acknowledging that daily movement is important, but it’s more important to do movement that makes her feel good so that the habit is easy to maintain. Pilates creates a balance in her mental and physical life that is missing when she steps away from this routine.

Born and raised in Canberra, Jess did her first Pilates class while living in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney for several years. She became obsessed with the way Pilates made her feel: strong and more flexible and it gave her confidence in her body that she’d never experienced before. Fast-forward 20 years and she’s still Pilates obsessed.
Jess and her husband Mick have followed through on this passion and they opened their Canberra studios, Power Flow Pilates Mawson in 2022 and Power Flow Pilates McKellar in 2024.

Mindfulness and meditation have always been a part of Jess’ life in some way. Thanks to her Dad, Jess was exposed to parts of this from a young child. However, it wasn’t until her adult years that Jess began to meditate regularly. She quickly realised the impact that it had on her life. She began to dive deeper into the yogic aspects of meditation, breathwork and mindfulness and hasn’t turned back. These practices have changed her life. She has learnt to lean into and celebrate who she really is and to slowly remove the masks built up over her life, to slow down, to appreciate the more important things in life and to be grateful every day. She also acknowledges that she always learning and growing – there is no end to this process and no quick fixes, its a daily practice and constant self reflection.

What is your favourite pilates move/exercise?

To do in my own body I love anything back bendy over the box because it is super challenging and not something we do day to day! I also love ab work and levers

To teach I love love love reverse facing carriage pulls/knee tucks. Super simple, but super effective. On a red spring it’s a burn! Progressing to a plank to tuck is my absolute fave.

On the mat, I love a plank or a side plank with all the leg lifts and variations.

What is your favourite comfort food?

I love food. All the food. But mostly healthy and delicious food. I am obsessed with a lentil dahl or a vegetable laksa

How you like your coffee (if no coffee then what do you drink?)

I haven’t had a coffee for over 2 years now which I’m so happy about! I love alllll things chai. Find me a sticky chai and I’ll be your friend forever.

What inspired you to become a pilates instructor?

I first discovered pilates in about 2006 in Sydney and have always loved the way it makes my body feel. I soon realised that I wanted to share this love with others, and had a real craving for working with and connecting with a wonderful community – and here we are!

What is your favourite Canberra / local region place to eat out?

Near Mawson I love Fox & Bow in Farrer, you’ll often catch me there having a delicious chai. Near McKellar I love Café Mame in Melba (they bring your chai with a doily – enough said).

Mick Dalton

Hi, I’m Mick, co-founder of Power Flow CBR.
My journey into wellness began over 20 years ago through yoga, Gestalt Therapy, and mindfulness — practices that continue to shape my life and work. Daily meditation in the Vipassana tradition, breathwork, and movement are central to my wellbeing and the way I support others. I believe deeply in the power of therapy, community, and holistic health to help people reconnect with themselves and navigate life’s challenges.

Alongside my love of wellness, I’ve spent years immersed in business and real estate — both of which have helped bring Power Flow CBR to life. What drives me most is seeing people follow their own path, wherever it may lead. Power Flow is the intersection of everything I value: movement, mindfulness, connection, and purpose. Whether through yoga, Pilates, meditation, or our programs and retreats, I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel supported, seen, and inspired.

I’ve been in a loving relationship with my wife for over 20 years, and together we’re raising three young boys. My passion lies in supporting our community — through our incredible team and the diverse offerings at Power Flow CBR. Whether it’s through movement, mindfulness, or therapeutic support, we help individuals, couples, and groups improve their overall wellbeing. Personally, I’m actively involved in our programs and draw on a rich blend of modalities including Gestalt, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches to create safe, transformative spaces for growth. You can learn more about my therapeutic work on the PF Mind page, and from time to time, you’ll find me teaching mindfulness and meditation classes and programs.

What inspired you to become a pilates instructor?

I contemplated becoming an instructor for about 6 years before I took the plunge. Timing was everything for me- when the second round of Covid hit and my other creative joys had to take a nap, using my lockdown time to get certified felt like the perfect addition to my life. Piecing together different movements into a delicious flow is my love language. Guiding our clients towards feeling good in their bodies is like the dialect I didn’t know I wanted to speak.
